The Difference One Person Can Make
Jun 17, 2026
There are moments in life when nothing can fix what's happening.
No advice.
No silver bullet.
No magic words.
You simply find yourself facing something you never wanted to face.
That's where Jane McGrath found herself when her breast cancer returned.
And that's where she met Alison.
A breast care nurse.
Later that day, Jane rang her best friend Tracy Bevan and said something that would eventually change thousands of lives.
"Today I met an angel."
Not because Alison could cure her cancer.
Not because she could make the diagnosis disappear.
But because she listened.
She understood.
She helped Jane make sense of what felt impossible.
As Jane told Tracy, she walked into treatment feeling overwhelmed and frightened. She walked out feeling lighter. Clearer. More like herself again.
And in that moment, she knew something.
Every family facing cancer deserved that same support.
That single conversation became the seed of what is now the McGrath Foundation.
Twenty years later, 367 McGrath Cancer Care Nurses have supported more than 174,000 Australian families across Australia.
But when we sat down with Tracy on The Profitable Farmer Podcast, it was clear this was never really about numbers.
It's about people.
People who show up when life gets hard.
People who help you navigate uncertainty.
People who sit beside you when you don't know what comes next.
For farming families, that matters.
Because when life throws you something big, the farm doesn't stop.
The responsibilities don't disappear.
The pressure doesn't magically lift.
And sometimes the greatest gift isn't someone who can solve the problem.
It's someone who helps you carry it.
That's why we're proud to share Tracy's story this week.
Not because it's the story of a remarkable charity.
But because it's a reminder of the extraordinary difference one person can make in another person's life.
