Stop Choking Your Farm Business
Oct 02, 2025
There he was…Homer Simpson…fists clenched around Bart’s neck.
Eyes bulging. Tongue flailing.
It’s hilarious on TV.
Tragic in a farm business.
But that’s exactly how a lot of farmers lead.
Gripping too tight.
Controlling every little thing.
Strangling the very business they’re trying to grow.
Last week I ran into Tom and Paula at our Platinum Mastermind Deep Dive.
Brilliant SA croppers.
They’d just taken a full month off.
Four weeks. No tractor. No inbox. No fires to fight.
Tom walked in looking like a different bloke.
Clear eyes. Beard. Big smile. Relaxed.
I asked how it went.
He grinned.
“Turns out the farm runs just fine without me.”
Ouch.
And also… yes!
His team stepped up.
The farm didn’t break.
And he had the realisation that he can let go.
That one month off taught him more than the last couple of years on.
He saw the remaining cracks.
The few system gaps.
But mostly he saw where he was hanging onto control and didn’t need to.
Here’s what most business owners don’t get:
Growth doesn’t come from doing more.
It comes from letting go.
Early on, sure…control creates progress.
You drive the tractor. You sign the cheques. You do the deals.
But eventually… that stops working.
Because you become the bottleneck.
The farm can’t grow if everything depends on you.
You just simply run out of capacity.
Your team waits on you.
Your family waits for you.
And your goals? Still waiting.
You say things like:
- “No one does it like I do.”
- “I just need to get on top of things.”
- “It’s quicker if I do it.
But it’s not.
It’s slower. More stressful. And completely unsustainable.
Let’s call it what it is:
You’re Homer.
Choking the kid.
Except the “kid” is your farm business.
And the longer you hold on, the less it can breathe.
What if instead:
You trusted more?
Delegated better?
Took a break… and let the systems prove themselves?
What if your holiday became your greatest leadership move?
Because when you step away, — even briefly, then — the truth shows up.
Where the cracks are.
Where the team shines.
Where the business actually needs you… and where it doesn’t.
If you want to see what that looks like, for real… discover how to attract and retain great people….and delegate effectively.

You’ll laugh. You’ll learn. You’ll probably see yourself in Homer.
But unlike him, you’ll walk away with a better plan.
See you there.
